All students follow a 'core' curriculum consisting of the following subjects:
English Language and English Literature
Mathematics
Combined Science (there is an option to study separate science)
Core Physical Education
Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE)
There is a very wide choice of optional subjects – hopefully something for everyone, whatever their ability, interests or future educational and career plans.
Students will be guided towards particular subjects that we feel are most appropriate to their needs. However, there is always room for some flexibility and we aim to ensure that everyone gets a personalised curriculum that is ideally suited to them.
In order to get a balanced curriculum, students are advised to consider the merits of choosing subjects from a range of categories. All students will be asked to chose four optional courses and students must ensure that includes at least one EBacc subject (French, history, geography, computer science or separate science - marked with a * on the options form). They can choose more than one EBacc subject if they wish but they must choose at least one.
Our experience over many years suggests that most students are able to study what they have chosen; however it will not be possible to accommodate some combinations of subjects. Therefore, students are asked to indicate reserve choices on the Options Form: it is vital that these are considered carefully, as these may be allocated. Failing to put a reserve choice will result in Options forms being returned to students for completion.
Teaching staff will also be consulted about students who have chosen their subject and may offer additional advice about their suitability.
