In the spring of 2022, 8th grade science students at Mountain Academy of Teton Science Schools studied genetics and genetic engineering. This unit, Engineering Our Lives, was designed by the Place Network at Teton Science Schools. For their culminating assessment, students designed their own projects to share what they learned with people beyond our school. Below, you will find links to each project, which include websites, podcasts, articles, and online presentations.
Our mission is to inform the general public on the common misconceptions of GMOs, more well known as Genetically Modified Organisms. Follow us on our journey to crack the misconceptions of GMOs and inform the greater public through podcast episodes featuring experts in the field of GMOs.
Our website covers genetic modification. More specifically it is about GMOs, epigenetics, and cloning.
This article provides an in-depth description of the science behind the novel biotechnology CRISPR-Cas9 and explains its possible futures and uses.
For our project, we wanted to correct the misconceptions about cloning. We created a podcast going in-depth on misconceptions and why they are wrong, and ethics.
For this science project, I'm doing a online presentation for the community surrounding genetic engineering. I will be talking about everything that we have learned mainly surrounding the topic of GMOs. My goal is to educate the public on new technology that is coming out or has come out that either covers new possibilities with animal and plant genetic modification.

Our website talks in detail about cloning and Inheritance. This website is good to spread information to younger and older audiences such as 7th/6th graders and older people who want a refresher or to learn about cloning and inheritance.
My podcast is about How CRISPR relates to natural selection. I talk about the pros and cons of CRISPR and natural selection. I also talk about what they are.
Thank you for exploring our class projects! We would greatly appreciate hearing feedback on our work. Please take a moment to fill out the form below to let us know what you thought of our projects for Engineering our Lives.
