Meals for the conference are served in the Jackson Campus dining hall. If you have any dietary restrictions you did not communicate on your registration form, please email placenetwork@tetonscience.org before April 6, 2025.
Breakfasts might be eggs, pancakes, or something similar, often with a breakfast meat on the side. There is usually a yogurt/cereal bar. Lunches and dinners are typically comforting, nourishing food served cafeteria style, usually with a hot protein, vegetable, and carbohydrate option. A small salad bar is also available.
Our kitchen will do their best to accommodate dietary needs, but they are not able to provide a guaranteed allergen-free setting. For severe food allergies, we recommend that you plan on bringing your own food that can be heated in a microwave. Please email placenetwork@tetonscience.org for details.
Meal times are as follows:
Breakfast: 7:30 - 8:00 am
Lunch: 11:45am - 12:45pm
Dinner: 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Snacks:
Tuesday 3pm: Snacks and water in the Welcome Center upon arrival
Wednesday-Friday, 10:00am: Coffee, muffins, and fruit
Wednesday, 2:00pm: snacks (bars/chips)
Feel free to bring your own snacks, as well. We ask that you be careful with crumbs when outside the dining hall, because there are lots of critters in the canyon, and we don't want to encourage them to get inside.
Dress for all events is casual. (I.e., jeans are fine for the conference, symposium, etc.) Plan to wear layers and comfortable/practical shoes. The campus has a gravel walkway, and there can be puddles, patches of ice or mud, and uneven surfaces.
The weather in Jackson in April is extraordinarily unpredictable! It could be in the 50s and sunny, which feels quite warm in the mountains, or it could be heavy snow, or rain. As we get closer to the event, we'll send out some more specific recommendations, but for now: Know that TSS has a great deal of gear and clothing you can borrow, so please do not feel like you need to go out and purchase winter or rain clothing. If you are thinking ahead and want to invest, shoes are harder to borrow than other gear, so you might consider a pair of waterproof hiking shoes or boots, especially if you plan on the excursion into the park. Because dress for the conference is casual, those same shoes or boots could be worn to all events. In fact, you'll see TSS staff wearing hiking shoes/boots a great deal of the time.
You will receive a survey asking about roommate preferences, so please coordinate with others from your school prior to completing the survey. Details about lodging at the Teton Science Schools campus can be found below. Our lodge rooms are simple and comfortable without the distractions of televisions or phones. The campus has wireless access for computers, and each lodge has a living room for a common place to relax. Our lodge rooms do not have hairdryers, irons, or toiletry items, so please take care to pack these necessities as you see fit.
Rooms each have a full-sized bed and one or two twin bunk beds and a private bath. Conference participants will sleep three to a room. Rooms include a bookshelf, chair, lamp, and a private bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower. Towels and bed linens are provided.
