For a VAW-Free Community, TESDA Caraga under the leadership of Regional Director Ashary A. Banto supports the Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAW-C).
The campaign is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 which carries the theme, This campaign aims to promote awareness on the forms of violence women and girls experience, provide information on laws protecting women, promote the strengthening of a prevention and response system on VAW and gather public support for the campaign.
Another purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness among stakeholders that VAW-C is a public issue of national concern. As one of the national line agencies, it is our part to support the Philippine Governmentโs goal to protect the human rights of women as well as the children by upholding its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence, amid the pandemic.
The 2020 Campaign comes at a time when the country is reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic that aggravated underlying gender issues and affected marginalized and vulnerable sectors. As the country continues to control the spread of the on-going threat brought by COVID-19, this highlights the challenge of strengthening the functionality of Barangay VAW Desk, as the first line of response for survivors.
Therefore, this yearโs campaign highlights the role and essence of the Barangay, as part of the VAW-Free community aside from capacitating VAW Desk Officers in different agencies. This reiterates everyoneโs commitment and contributions on ending violence against women and children.
