Legal Opinions
We have prepared content that you can include in your written submission to the select committee. This content provides a legal analysis of the bill. If you find some or all of the content persuasive, you should include it in your submission. If you want to change the wording and add your own thoughts, you are welcome to do that as well.
No reference is needed, but if you wish to reference these opinions you can use:

A Note from us
Tēnā koutou,
In light of the ongoing efforts to reject the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill, we offer these resources to support those preparing submissions to the Justice Select Committee.
This resource provides judicious insights from our Faculty and Students in the University of Auckland Law School, Waipapa Taumata Rau.
By reviewing these opinions, you will gain a clearer understanding of the relevant issues at hand and can use this knowledge to craft your own submission to the Select Committee.
With the Submission Builder, we hope that it makes it as easy as possible guides for you to create a clear and concise submission.
We have a unique opportunity to influence the direction of our people’s future - your voice, along with others, will help strengthen the collective call to protect Māori rights and uphold the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
We encourage you to contribute your submission by 7 January 2025, in solidarity with the ongoing protest against the Bill and its consequences.
E taku mōkai, he wā poto noa koe i a waenganui i te wā kua hipa me te wā kei te tū mai.
You are but a speck in the moment of time situated between two entities, the past and the future. Make use of this moment wisely and for the benefit of your people.
Ngā mihi,
Te Rākau Ture in collaboration with Te Tai Haruru
