Participants will:
Understand the role of schools in the environmental and climate landscape
Build core data literacy skills: collection, organization, visualization, interpretation
Learn how to spot patterns, gaps, and opportunities using real-world evidence
Strengthen confidence in communicating findings to peers, educators, and decision-makers
Develop leadership identity and agency in advancing climate solutions
Contribute to statewide data that informs climate-ready school practices and investments
Students who complete the program will receive:
A certificate of completion
Community science or service-learning hours (eligible for the CA State Seal of Civic Engagement if offered by their district)
We welcome students from all regions and backgrounds, including rural, suburban, and urban school communities. Students attending schools with fewer sustainability resources or opportunities are strongly encouraged to apply!
π Time Commitment
8β10 hours per month
π» Meetings: Two 90-minute virtual sessions per month (bi-weekly)
π Independent Work: 5β7 hours per month on school site assessment and project tasks

What We Ask From Participants
Attend and actively engage in all live virtual sessions
Be part of a supportive, collaborative learning community
Conduct a full school environmental & climate action site assessment
Build a cleaned data spreadsheet
Produce a baseline report with findings and recommendations
Create a poster and present your project at the Youth Environmental Data Leadership Program Showcase in June
