Welcome to our

9th Annual T.H.S. Science Research Honors Symposium!

June 2021

We celebrate our 9th Annual Science Research Symposium, virtually this year. Under extraordinary circumstances, the individual and unique accomplishments of each of our science research students are presented here in their Bios and Video Presentations of their research work. Our students emerge confidently to present their research as young experts in their topic and received wide recognitions. Some of their fields of research were cancer research, robotics, computer science, physics, chemistry, material science, engineering, etc. They have worked closely with and been reviewed by professional scientists and engineers and presented their work to their classmates and at numerous outside science symposia and competitions.

Highlights of this year’s recognitions include three Regeneron STS Scholars, a Regeneron ISEF Finalist and third place category award winner, AAAS/AJAS nationals presenters, a first author publication, a Women in Data Science Phase 2 winner and many other awards and distinctions. The awards are listed in the awards tab.

Special thanks to:

Tenafly Schools Superintendent, Mrs. Shauna DeMarco

Tenafly Schools Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Evelyn Mamman

THS Principal, Mr. James Morrison

THS Vice-Principal, Mr. Richard Suchanski

Supervisor Secondary Curriculum & Instruction, Mr. David DiGregorio

Our colleagues, parents and dear students.

Our mentors and guest speakers who graciously volunteer their time and expertise to invest in our students, and without whom this would not be possible.

Best wishes to all symposium participants, especially our seniors! We are so proud of all of you!

****************************

Our Methods of Science Research Honors course follows a three-year sequence, where our students become immersed in a particular area of science. They learn to read peer-reviewed articles, create literature reviews, present articles. Ultimately the students will search for a mentor in a college or organization that will guide them through original summer experimental research. The research takes place in the summers between sophomore/junior and junior/senior years and often continues throughout the school year. Throughout the process, the students keep a lab journal and a portfolio of their work.

Students present their work at several competitions each year with poster, paper or oral submissions. Our students have been recognized at Regeneron STS, Regeneron ISEF, NOKIA/Bell Labs NJRSF, JSHS, NJAS, NYAS, WiDS, TOSHIBA Exploravision, etc.

The end of each year culminates in our school Science Research Honors Symposium where the students present their work to the community.

We follow the SUNY Albany Science Research in the High School program.
