On April 7th, 1952, Marilyn Monroe was featured in Life Magazine. In this magazine, she expressed her love for this perfume. She was asked what she wears to bed to which she answered N° 5. Monroe is shown in a bedroom embracing the perfume. She is seen with the perfume in her hand, spraying it on her with an excited expression.
Marylin Monroe portrayed the strength of women in the iconic Chanel No. 5 advertisement. The fragrance's blog claims that the bottle became a representation of women's strength and independence as well as femininity and a profound yearning for luxury, which inspired imagination. In general, independence actually helps market products in individualistic cultures, especially those linked to women and their freedom. I choose this ad because of the feature of Marilyn Monroe. She looks totally amazing in this ad and it can be shown through her expressions of the love she has for this perfume.
In 1984, CHANEL launched the perfume COCO. The ad features Ines de la Fressange. Ines is seen lying down with rich clothing and perfume right in front of her. Due to this ad, Ines became the spokesperson after being the first model to sign an exclusive contract with a couture house. The perfume is created by Jacque Polge and inspired by Mademoiselle Chanel.
Ines is a French model. The ad focuses primarily on 3 colors, black, white, and brown. Ines's top also matches the perfume's box and bottle. The black box has a white label and the perfume bottle's liquid is a gold color, just like Ines's top. In France, social status, face, and prestige are all buying motives. Owning this perfume definitely showed one's social status, especially if Ines was featured in it. This type of ad is also an association transfer ad, using a celebrity, Fans of Ines were more likely to buy this perfume since they would be connected to her. I chose this ad because of how it quickly targeted me. Ines's bold face in the ad really attracted me towards the ad.
Jacques Polge was launched in 2021. The ad features Kate Moss, a British Model. The placement of the perfume's name is right in the middle of the ad. The background is white and Kate's dress is black. Half of the name is black when the background is white and the other half is white when the background is black. With the background being black and white, the perfume's bottle is presented right in front of Kate, which is a contrasting color from the background.
Out of the seven basic forms of advertising, this ad is a form of association transfer, with the subcategory of celebrity transfer. The celebrity, Kate Moss is shown in the ad, and fans of Kate are easily targeted by this ad. This form of advertising only associates the target group with the celebrity featured in the ad. I chose this ad because of how the perfume is being advertised. Kate is shown posing, the name of the perfume is colored based on Kate's dress and the background, and then the perfume is shown. The product is shown in a layering form.
In 2010, these "SHOOTING STARS" earrings were part of the 80 new pieces that were launched. These stunning, flashy, and dangling earrings were also presented in an exhibition. Those 80 pieces were a part of the 80th anniversary of the collection BIJOUX DE DIAMANTS. Launched in 1932, this was the first collection that was launched by Chanel. The 80 pieces of jewelry were first revealed in Paris, France in the museum Musée du Quai Branly. Later on, they were presented in the Biennale des Antiquaires exhibition in Paris.
These beautiful earrings were shown in Paris, France, where a feministic/individualistic culture takes place. In this culture, public buying motives rely more on face, social status, and prestige. These sparkly earrings definitely show one's social status if owned. Behind the earrings themselves, there seems to be a flashy trail, leading up to the earrings. This really does show the earring being a "shooting star." I chose this ad because of how I was attracted to it. It caught my eye out of all the other ads in this era.
To express feelings and concern, one advertisement was shown in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on Mother's Day. The originality of the advertisement is represented in a child's drawing of love and emotion. Feminine cultures will want to associate with nice, friendly people. This heart-touching drawing attracts mostly mothers because of the mother's day special. Also, since a child drew this ad, mothers' are more connected to the emotions ad delivers. I chose this ad because of the emotions this ad delivers. It targets mothers easily with this drawing.
