Te Kaha o Tuakana program is designed to engage with rangatahi that are year 9, and year 10 from local high schools. We will form small groups, with no more than 15 students in each. These dedicated students will collaborate with us once a week for eight weeks during each academic term, with the exception of the first and last weeks of each term.
Our primary objective throughout each term is to foster the development of leadership, communication, and teamwork skills among these rangatahi. To be eligible for participation in our program, students must meet specific criteria set by their schools. These criteria include demonstrating the potential for leadership, maintaining an attendance rate of 75% or less, having experienced at least one pastoral care incident per term, and expressing a genuine desire to be a part of this enriching experience.
The aim of Te Kaha o Rangatahi is to nurture the leadership potential of young minds. In this program, we work closely with year 7 and 8 students from local high schools. With a commitment to quality education and mentorship, we limit each school group to no more than 30 students.
We aim to engage with these rangatahi for 2 days a week during every term for 1 hour per visit excluding the first and last week of every term. This consistent interaction allows us to foster their growth in three essential areas: leadership development, cultural identity, and the concept of tuakana teina, which embodies the spirit of mentorship.
