Te Hapara School - Our Teams

The Manu Hou Syndicate is our Year 0/1 team at Te Ata Hāpara School, led by Syndicate Leader Roxanne Ng (Mrs Ng), alongside Kōka Kirstie Brown and Kōka Mikayla Ngarimu.

The syndicate consists of two classrooms: Kōka Kirstie teaches the Year 0/1 New Entrant class, drawing on her extensive experience in Early Childhood Education and Stand Tū Māia. Kōka Mikayla and Roxanne co-teach the Year 1 class, with Mikayla teaching mornings (9 am–1 pm) and Roxanne afternoons (1 pm–3 pm). Mikayla is currently training as a literacy specialist, while Roxanne has been a literacy specialist at Te Ata Hāpara for the past few years.

Guided by the principles of Te Ara Puāwai, we focus on strong foundations for learning and wellbeing in the early years of schooling. We work as a united, collaborative team to ensure consistency across both classrooms and to provide a nurturing environment where tamariki feel safe, supported, and have a strong sense of belonging as they begin their school journey.

Manu Iti is made up of three classes - Rūma Toru, Rūma Wha and Rūma Rima. Our classrooms range from Year 2-3. .........

Manu Tū comprises two Year 4 classes: Rūma Ono with Mrs Carlson and Rūma Whitu with Mrs Shen.

We teach using explicit, direct instruction across our Year 4 knowledge-rich curriculum.

Evidence-based instruction ensures our students learn the skills and knowledge they need to thrive

on their learning journey through our Kura.

Manu Kahu is our Year 5 & 6 learning team, made up of Rūma Waru, Rūma Iwa, and Rūma Tekau. We are committed to creating a positive, engaging, and high-achieving learning environment where every learner is supported to grow in confidence, knowledge, and capability.

Our teaching approach focuses on explicit instruction and a strong knowledge-rich curriculum. We believe students learn best when learning intentions are clear, skills are carefully modelled, and knowledge is built progressively over time. Through structured teaching, meaningful practice, and high expectations, we help learners develop strong foundations across all curriculum areas.

In Manu Kahu, we encourage curiosity, resilience, collaboration, and pride in learning. We aim to empower students to become thoughtful, capable learners who are prepared for future success both inside and outside the classroom.
