School Site Roles (CAASPP & ELPAC)

Site CAASPP/ELPAC Coordinator
Leads testing at the school site; schedules testing, trains staff, ensures security, and supports Test Administrators.

School Administrator (Principal or Designee)
Ensures testing compliance and supports site coordination.

Test Administrator (TA)
Administers CAASPP assessments to students, follows standardized procedures, and maintains test security.

ELPAC Test Examiner
Administers ELPAC assessments (especially the Speaking domain) using required scripts and protocols.

Alternate Assessment Test Examiner
Administers California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) and Alternate ELPAC for eligible students.

Test Proctor
Assists the TA by monitoring students during testing (does not administer tests independently).

Technology Coordinator
Ensures devices, networks, and testing software function properly and assists with technical issues.


Common Terms Test Administrators Need to Know

CAASPP
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (state testing system).

ELPAC
English Language Proficiency Assessments for California.

TOMS
Test Operations Management System used to access test sessions and student test settings.

Secure Browser
Required testing browser used for all CAASPP and ELPAC assessments.

Test Session ID
Unique code created by the TA that students use to log in to a test.

Designated Supports
Supports available to students based on educator decision (e.g., color contrast, read aloud for math).

Accommodations
Supports documented in an IEP or 504 Plan (e.g., text-to-speech for ELA, extended time).

Universal Tools
Tools available to all students (e.g., highlighter, zoom, calculator when allowed).

Pause Rule
Guidelines determining how long a test can be paused before students are locked out of items.

Test Security
Requirement to keep test content confidential and follow all administration rules.

Irregularity
An unusual event during testing that does not invalidate the test but must be reported.

Breach
A serious violation of test security that may invalidate a test.
