Dan is Co-Founder, President and CEO of Greengate Power, a leading Canadian renewable energy company.
Under Dan’s leadership the Greengate team has been successfully developing renewable energy projects of unprecedented scale in Canada for more than a decade, including the country’s largest wind and solar energy projects.
Dan was named one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People in 2010 and 2013 by Alberta Venture magazine, a winner of Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Prairies in 2012, and named one of Canada’s Clean50 for 2015.
Madison is a 24-year-old from Calgary. In 2019, she graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting with Co-op and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Honours.
Her honours dissertation explored the consequences of water insecurity on Canadian First Nations reserves. She has worked at the US Peace Corps, the City of Calgary Water Centre, and ATCO. She is the Climate Action Co-Lead for the Calgary Hub of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers. Her 2019 TEDxTalk discussed the importance of hope in climate change mitigation.
Madison currently serves as Chief of Staff at a carbon utilization company called Carbon Upcycling Technologies.
Joe Vipond has worked as an emergency physician for twenty years, currently at the Rockyview General Hospital. He has been active on the climate crisis since learning of its repercussions 15 years ago.
His first advocacy campaign was as a spokesperson and strategist for the Alberta Coal Phase Out movement, and more recently, the Canadian Coal Phase Out network. These efforts have had an impact on approximately 66 MT of greenhouse gas emissions, or 9% of Canada's total GHGs.
He is a board member and Interim President of the national charity Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment. He is also the co-founder and co-chair of the local non-profit the Calgary Climate Hub, and during COVID, the co-founder of #masks4Canada. Joe grew up in Calgary and continues to live here with his wife and two daughters.
Dr. Hastings-Simon is an expert in energy, innovation, and climate policy; her work is focused on understanding how energy and industrial transitions happen within different sectors of the economy, and how policy responses can improve outcomes. She explores the role of incumbents and governments in development and deployment of new clean technologies, particularly within high carbon economies; the markets and policy structures that enable decarbonisation of electricity systems; and the response of firms to carbon pricing and other climate policy measures. She is a co-host of the energyvsclimate.substack.com webinar series and podcast.
Sara is an expert member of the panel for Clean Growth with the Canadian Climate Choices Institute, a member of the board of directors of Emissions Reduction Alberta, and a member of the board of directors at the Pembina Institute. She was previously the Director of Clean Economy at the Pembina Institute where she founded Business Renewable Centre Canada. She was also the practice manager for Clean Technologies at McKinsey & Company, where she worked as a management consultant on topics of cleantech, energy, and sustainability. Earlier in her career she worked as an experimental physicist on realisations of rare earth ion-based quantum memories.
Steve Bentley works with the Calgary Climate Hub engaging Calgary communities to talk about the climate crisis and take steps towards impactful action. He is also the host of ‘A Climate of Change,’ the Hub’s monthly online broadcast which interviews thought leaders from across Canada about these wildly unprecedented times and what it all means for addressing the climate crisis here in Alberta.
