About us
About us
What and where we are
We are a reseach team integrating LaPMET (Associated Lab) as part of CeFEMA's Theory Group. We are located at the Alameda Campus of Instituto Superior Técnico, ULisboa. We are also active members and participants of the QM@PT network.
What we do
Our team explores states of quantum matter, both in- and out-of-equilibrium. Our mission is to unlock the secrets behind the collective quantum phenomena that emerge when many quantum degrees of freedom interact. By doing so, we pave the way for a deeper understanding of quantum materials and the advancement of quantum technology.
We collaborate actively with researchers across the world, working at the interface between Condensed Matter Physics, Statistical Mechanics and Quantum Information Theory.
What we commit to
We are committed to produce original and disruptive research at the forefront of our field. We wish to provide a vibrant and collaborative research environment to attract and train outstanding young researchers to their highest potential. We pursue an avid national and international collaboration policy hoping to learn and share our research across borders and disciplines.
Why should you care
The mastery of novel materials, from stone to silicon, has led to major technological and scientific advances. We are on the brink of a new age - the Age of Quantum Matter. Quantum materials are now at the center of modern material research and have begun driving innovation. At the same time, quantum computation is becoming a reality. Progress in both these fields requires understanding of collective quantum phenomena. The necessity of studying quantum matter and the opportunities it brings has triggered a burst of activity.
We want to continue contributing to this vibrant field with new, exciting and original research results. We also want to continue training outstanding people to tackle the problems and grab the opportunities or this new Age.
