Privacy Policy — WhatsApp Web Privacy Mode
Last updated: 4 June 2026
WhatsApp Web Privacy Mode ("the extension") is a browser extension that visually blurs sensitive content on web.whatsapp.com until you hover over it. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data.
Data we collect
None. The extension does not collect, store off your device, transmit, sell, or share any personal data, message content, contacts, or browsing data. It contains no analytics, trackers, or remote code, and makes no network requests of its own. No data ever leaves your device.
Settings stored on your device
Your preferences — which items to blur (messages, previews, names, profile pictures, media), the blur strength and style, the message-visibility mode, idle/inactive blur settings, keyboard-shortcut state, and your allow-list of chat names — are saved only on your own device using the browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local / browser.storage.local). This information never leaves your device and is removed when you uninstall the extension.
Permissions
- storage: to remember your settings on your device.
- Access to https://web.whatsapp.com/*: so the content script can apply the blur on WhatsApp Web. The extension only adds CSS and small marker attributes to the page to blur and reveal content locally; it does not read, copy, log, or transmit your messages, contacts, or media.
Third parties
The extension does not send data to any third party. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WhatsApp or Meta Platforms, Inc.
Children's privacy
The extension does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
