2024 Techie Camp Registration Form
(Willow Hill Heritage & Renaissance Center)
With support from the Nordson Corporation Foundation, TECH CORPS will implement its Techie Camp program in partnership with the Willow Hill Heritage & Renaissance Center for elementary and middle school students in Bulloch County this summer.
Techie Camp is a full-day, week-long program designed to engage elementary (ES) and middle school (MS) students in hands-on, interactive STEM-related activities. Students take a deep dive into subject matter focused on Robotics, Programming, Android App Development, 3D Printing, or Digital Animation and emerge with skills that are useful in today’s classroom and tomorrow's workplace. The Techie Camp experience will conclude with students presenting their final project to their parents and peers on Friday afternoons. Below are additional notes about the Techie Camps:
Students will benefit the most from participating in all six (s) weeks of the program!
Each Techie Camp is comprised of 20 students and led by 2 Instructors.
There will be an elementary school (ES) and middle school (MS) offerings each week.
Families will be responsible for transportation and food/beverages.
Each Techie Camp will run from 9:00AM-4:00PM on the following dates (topics included):
June 3-7: ES/MS Programming with Scratch
June 10-14: ES/MS App Development
June 17-21: ES/MS Digital Animation (no session on 6/19)
June 24-28: Programming with Make Code Arcade
July 8-12: ES/MS Robotics with Lego Mindstorms EV3
July 15-19: ES/MS Robotics with Makeblock
THIS OPPORTUNITY IS ONLY OPEN TO STUDENTS WHO MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
Live or attend school in Bulloch County
Currently in the 2nd-7th grade (rising 3rd-8th)
Student Selection Process:
Students will be enrolled in Techie Camps on a "first-come, first-serve" basis until all spots are filled. Families will be notified via email.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Once you begin the registration form, you are only able to save/return to it if you have a Gmail account. Please be prepared to spend approximately 10 minutes completing the registration form in one sitting. Otherwise, you will have to start a new registration form. Below is an overview of each Techie Camp topic:
Programming (Scratch)
Students will use Scratch, developed by the MIT Media Lab, to learn the concepts of computer programming by using a simple graphical user interface. Students will create their own interactive art, interactive stories and games. The camp will encourage students to think about complex ideas or complex concepts rationally and logically.
MS Programming (Make Code Arcade)
Old school gets a fresh makeover! Students bring a new twist to iconic games like Pong, PacMan, and MarioKart. With MakeCode
Arcade, they dive into basic game design concepts to craft games they can download on handheld consoles.
App Development
App Development allows students to go beyond the app store from consumer to inventor. With the power of innovation in the palm of their hands, Students bridge the physical world to the digital world. Students harness app development tools to build meaningful apps you may one day download on your phone.
Digital Animation
Step into the world of 3D animation moviemaking! Students unleash their inner director using cutting-edge modeling software to design and print models and craft captivating digital characters. Through stop-motion, sound effects, and voiceovers, their Oscar-worthy movies come alive on the big screen.
Robotics with Lego Mindstorms EV3
Students will try their hands at basic engineering and programming. They expand their logical and mechanical thinking skills as they work in teams to design and implement the ultimate robot. Students discover their inner creativity while developing their ability to troubleshoot dilemmas as they interact with the Lego Mindstorms EV3 components.
Robotics with Makeblock
Students will explore programming components to to help their robot navigate different obstacles. Students will enhance their creativity while strengthening their ability to troubleshoot dilemmas as they interact with the Makeblock components.
