Phuningla is located on the mountaintop southeast of Lhuentse Dzong under Tsaenkhar Gewog. It is also a sacred place blessed by Guru Rinpoche. The visit to the Ney (secret place) is said to achieve liberation and cleansing of all defilements. From Phuningla it takes one day to reach Aja Nye one of the sacred places blessed by Guru Rinpoche. It is considered as one which is exactly located in the center of other mountains, thus the mountain is known to be Phuningla-the center of the mountains. On a clear day, one can witness a spectacular view of Thrimshingla and the Indian state plains. Every year hundreds of domestic tourists visit and benefit the local people of Lhuentse and Mongar.
