Ecoshell from Tec Racing is an multidisciplinary team of students representing Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Monterrey in the Shell Eco-Marathon competition through the Battery-Electric Prototype Vehicle category. Our latest participation concluded on April 2024, however we aim to compete at the Shell Eco-Marathon Brazil in August 2024.
Demonstrate the viability of our electromotive hyper-efficient vehicle in a competitive environment, aiming towards the optimal energetic performance. We plan to develop the leadership and technical abilities of students at Tecnológico de Monterrey, campus Monterrey, through the integration of cutting-edge aerodynamics with innovative energy efficiency solutions.
We aspire to become leaders in innovation in eco-friendly vehicle engineering, focusing on the Shell Eco-marathon competition. Our objective is to demonstrate the technologies of efficient vehicles and how they can be adapted to conventional transportation. Thus, we seek to represent and inspire change in the vehicle industry with the knowledge gained as students to lead this transformation.
Our design focuses in creating an energy-efficient vehicle, propelled by a paired magnet motor (PMSM), with a powertrain fed solely by a lithium-ion battery. We seek to maximize energy efficiency and minimize our carbon footprint without compromising vehicle performance.
Through the use of innovative materials like aluminum for the chassis, fiberglass for the body and soon carbon fiber; we have achieved an optimal equilibrium between weight and structural resistance. In addition, through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, we achieved a drag force of only 1.6 N and a lift of 0.2 N which compensates the weight of the vehicle. Similarly, our vehicle obtained a safety factor of 2 through finite element analysis (FEA) simulations.
Innovation and design thinking are at the core of our focus as a team. From the development of a personalized lithium-ion battery to the optimization of structural profiles for our chassis, every aspect of our prototype reflects our creative and solution-centric approach.
Driven by our commitment towards excellence and sustainability, Tec Racing seeks to position itself as an overachieving team in the Shell Eco-Marathon international competition, demonstrating that innovation can drive us towards a cleaner and more efficient future in the world of motorsports.

Movement? Mechanical systems.
In the area of mechanical systems we focus primarily on 2 systems within the vehicle: the steering system and the braking system. We handle the desgin and optimization of both systems to make them as light and efficient as possible. We always look for the most stable steering system. In addition to having a vehicle that is easy to maneuver and turn, we look for lighter and more optimal breaks capable of completely stopping our vehicle.
The soul of optimization. We focus on the essence of efficient movement by optimizing the aerodynamics and structure of the vehicle to achieve maximum efficiency with the lowest possible consumption. In the field of aerodynamics we seek to reduce drag resistance by designing shapes and surfaces that guide air optimally, while in structures our goal is to create structural components that are firm enough to withstand the demands of the course but as strong as possible. light as possible to maximize energy efficiency, allowing our prototype to move with maximum efficiency and agility
The brain of the vehicle: In electronics we handle the implementation and optimization of energy to propel our vehicle as far as we can with the least amount of fuel. In addition, we ensure the use of many safety features to provide maximum safety for our driver. Our most recent approach saw us utilizing a telemetric system for the gathering of data that will allow us a greater control over the vehicle's behavior.
This area has been recently incorporated to maximize the efficiency of our car. Vehicle Engineering encompasses the development and optimization of vehicles and race tracks through advanced simulation tools in MATLAB for Tec Racing. Using Simulink, cars and tracks are modeled with GPS coordinates, race and energy management strategies are designed, the behavior of cars is studied in various scenarios, and object-oriented programming is used for telemetry and documentation.
