Hybrid and Phase-In Guiding Principles

Guiding Principles Followed in Preparing to Re-open Bryant to Preschool Children1:

  1. Take time to plan and prepare for reopening

  2. Ensure that we can maintain child-friendly and developmentally appropriate practices

  3. Ensure staff have training prior to reopening and support once opened

  4. Protect children while engaging in play and learning

  5. Establish healthy hygiene behaviors and practices among young children

  6. Prevent disease transmission and establish procedures if staff and children become unwell

  7. Partner with families to ensure good transition from home to Bryant School and ensure open ongoing communication

  1. Enact a coordinated and integrated approach to ensure children’s holistic needs are met when they return to Bryant School

  1. Make adaptations to reach the most vulnerable children and families

  1. Plan ahead to support teachers, children and parents/caregivers in the event of re-closure.

Health Form Must be submitted Daily by 7AM (Daily Link via Email )


  • Student Arrival 8:20am

  • Dismissal 11:20am


  • Staff Arrival 8:15am

  • Staff Lunch 11:45am to 12:30pm


  • PM Groups start at 1:00pm end at 2:15pm


  • Wednesdays are all-Remote:

  • 9:15am to 2:15pm


Staff Health and Safety

All employees must submit their PCR Diagnostic Nasal Swab COVID-19 results to covidhealthdocs@teaneckschools.org prior to their return.

  • Staff who have submitted a negative PCR Diagnostic Nasal Swab test to covidhealthdocs@teaneckschools.org will be given a hologram sticker.

All staff members are required to complete the daily wellness symptom check prior to entry to any District building.

  • Each staff member will receive an email every morning and are to complete if the staff member is in-district on that particular day.

  • The wellness symptom check should be completed prior to staff leaving their home for their assignment.

Safety Officers will be deployed to entrances at building locations and will not grant access to district facilities without clearing these protocols. All staff must wear a mask and practice social distancing while in district.

Children's Health and Safety

Parents/Guardians will be required to submit a daily health symptoms form for every child by 7am.

  • The link and protocol will be included as soon as possible.

The district will provide a PPE kit containing 2 disposable masks

Parents and Guardians, send the following with you child on the 1st day:

  • 1 full change of seasonally appropriate clothing (top, bottom, under garments, socks) *label each item with the child's name

  • Hand sanitizer,

  • Tissues

  • 2 face covering/masks that is comfortable for your child.

  • We recommend also sending 3 disposable masks.

  • 3 empty plastic supermarket bags.

  • All items should be in a clear Ziploc bag, labelled with the child's name.

Children should bring a labelled water bottle every day, refilled with fresh water.

  • This is the only item that will travel back and forth with your child.

Social Distancing Protocols

The Bryant School will allow for social distancing within the classroom to the maximum extent practicable. This will be achieved by:

  • Arrivals and Dismissals: Children are organized by class at arrival and dismissal points.

  • Paperless: Children will bring in and take pout only their own personal water bottles. No backpacks.

  • For children in self-contained classes, families are encouraged to utilize the school lunch; lunch from home should be in a disposable bag.

  • Ensuring students are seated at least 6 feet apart.

  • Limiting class rosters to 8-12 students for in person learning

  • Outdoor play spaces are scheduled on a rotating basis to include time to disinfect between classes.

  • Classes with very small numbers of children are paired with 1 other class for outdoor play and socialization.

  • Using sneeze guard panels on students/ teacher desks

  • Turning tables to face the same direction (rather than facing each other)

  • Having students sit on only one side of the table, spaced apart.

  • Face coverings are required for students, and face coverings are always required for visitors and staff unless it will inhibit the individual’s health.

  • All instructional and non-instructional rooms in school and district facilities must comply with social distancing standards to the maximum extent practicable.

  • Use of shared objects will be limited whenever possible or cleaned between use

  • Using students own personal Chromebook devices; no sharing of devices.

  • When possible, provide adequate supplies to minimize sharing of high touch materials

  • Avoid sharing electronic devices, toys, books, and other games or learning aids, or thoroughly clean and disinfect between use.

  • Keep each child’s belongings separated from others’ and in individually labeled containers.

  • Create “one-way routes” in classrooms and hallways and staircases using floor markers to maintain social distancing in classrooms, hallways and common areas

  • Sanitize hands at all school and classroom entrances

  • Place signage around school buildings to provide hygiene advice and reminders

  • Classroom windows cracked for ventilation


Attendance

In-Person: Your child's attendance will be based on attending in-person. You will have the option of logging on in the afternoon if you choose. You will also have plenty of time before the afternoon groups which will not start until 1 or 1:15.

All-Remote: Daily Attending Criteria:

Teaneck Preschool students are considered attending during a Remote Learning day when participating in the following way:

  1. Live: Attend at least 1 of 4 daily live instruction sessions.

  2. Or Asynchronous: Submit the daily pre-recorded video assignment via Google Classroom and participate in weekly parent-teacher live check-ins* with visual confirmation of the child's well-being.

  • Please note the criteria for asynchronous learners: A teacher or certified preschool staff person must see the child during a live Google Meet check-in, or at another time during the week. This is to ensure the ongoing well-being of asynchronous, enrolled students.

Daily Attendance:

  1. Live Attending: Child attends at least 1 live instructional group each school day.

    • Children may also watch daily pre-recorded videos, and parents participate in weekly check-ins with the teacher via Google Meet.

  2. For asynchronous learners:

    • Parents have until the end of the day to assist their child in completing a pre-recorded video assignment submission via Google Classroom to be considered attending for that day.

    • Parents, expect to be contacted by your child’s teacher to schedule your weekly in-person check-in.

    • It is very important that you make every attempt to respond to your child’s Teacher.

    • They will make at least 2 total attempts in 1 week to contact you within the week, to schedule the weekly live parent check-in.

    • It is imperative that the child be physically visible during a weekly check-in; this can be separate from the parent check-ins.

  3. If your child’s attendance can not be verified, you will be contacted by the school nurse, and/or the Parent Liaison.

    • The Parent Liaison will further explore times to check in, ensure understanding of attendance policy, and support your participation in live check-ins including the visible well being check-in of the student.

Absence Procedure:

  • Parents/guardians should contact the Bryant school secretary or nurse via phone or email to report the student’s absence by 9am on the date of absence at (201) 833-5545.

  • 10 Absences: If your child is absent for 10 consecutive days, and the district has made multiple attempts to communicate with the family about attendance, the child may be withdrawn from the school.
