Students should aim to practice each assigned song 2-3 times (15-20 minutes), 5 days a week.
At the heart of our elementary orchestra program lies a commitment to nurturing young musicians through structured learning and engaging incentives. Our curriculum map serves as a vital resource for families, outlining the skills and standards that guide our students’ musical journeys. By sharing this guide, we empower parents to support their children's progress, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances their learning experience.
A key element of our program is "Orchestra Karate," an innovative achievement system where students earn colored belts (zip ties) on their instrument cases as they reach new performance milestones. This fun and motivating approach not only encourages practice and mastery of skills but also instills a sense of pride and accomplishment. As students advance through the ranks, they build confidence and develop a lifelong love of music. Once they achieve their black belt, students receive a free “Orchestra Ninja” t-shirt.
Students can play their assigned music with an awesome interactive music studio to make learning their instrument more fun! Follow these steps to access this experience: go to https://www.essentialelementsinteractive.com

Reading fluency is essential for young musicians. Quick note recognition builds confident, accurate sight-reading and supports strong musical growth. Daily note identification practice strengthens decoding skills, leading to more successful learning and performance.
Our district -wide goal is for 90% of our 5th-grade beginning students to accurately identify the notes of the D Scale on the staff by Orchestra Fest in March.
