CHARACTER CARDS
Character Cards are a communication tool between educators and families that are used to record merits and demerits. Through the use of Character Cards, students are incentivized to engage in responsible leadership on campus.
MERITS & DEMERITS
Students receive merits through actively representing our creed:
oExtra effort - "I will rise to exceptionality."oComplimentary behavior that influences others - "Our character will shine with unity and integrity."oService & participation in extracurricular, community or enrichment activities - "I will be a servant leader."
Students receive demerits based on the following:
oTardinessoInappropriate languageoDisruptive behavioroFood, candy, gum, etc.oFailure to attend assigned activitiesoDisrespect to adults or peersoFailure to complete homeworkoUniform violations
DEMERIT CONSEQUENCES
Student consequences begin at the third demerit and vary by grade level. Consequences include and are not limited to detention during lunch or after school.
We believe that all students are able to better improve their behavior. We expect students to:
•Reflect on the behavior choices they are making•Consider the impact their behavior has on them as well as their classmates, teachers, and parents•Think of positive behavior choices for the future
LEARNING TRIP POLICIES
YWLA traditionally affords students the opportunity to participate in educational and extra-curricular trips to expose students to field-based explorations. Students must meet all guidelines established by our administration and trip sponsor(s):
Responsibility:
1.Students must submit any fees, transportation waivers, medical forms, etc. on time.2.Students must clear all school obligations (overdue library books, lost textbooks, etc.) with written documentation to provide to the trip sponsor by the established deadline.
Grades, Discipline, and Participation:
1. Approval may be denied on the basis of inappropriate behavior.2. Students with low advisory grades may not participate in field trips.3. Middle school students must have all grades above 85%.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Community Service refers to any services a person performs for the benefit of their community. All YWLA students are expected to complete and document community service hours on a school provided log with a signature from the service's event coordinator. (Alternate documentation may be accepted with approval from an administrator.)
