STUDENT EXPECTATIONS AND GRADING POLICY

Welcome to PRECALCULUS! We are in for a great year. Precalculus is a very demanding and exciting subject. This course requires your best effort. Get ready to work hard, learn a lot, and enjoy the wonderful world of Mathematics.
Because this course is demanding, I have very high expectations from each of you. Your obligations to this class are as follows:
¨ Be on time, seated, and ready to begin class when the bell rings. I will follow the DHJ Tardy Policy. If you are not in class when the bell rings, you will be counted tardy.
¨ Be prepared for class by having completed assigned reading or problem sets. Studying for tests and quizzes is of course also expected.
¨ Working together on problems sets in encouraged, but copying the work of another student is dishonest. If you are caught cheating in class or have access to a cell phone during assessments, you will receive a zero for your work and be given mandatory tutoring to complete the missed assignment.
¨ Written assignments will be given in advance and must be completed on time. Assignments may be turned in late for excused absences or with my approval for exceptional circumstances. If you have not made a good attempt at the homework assignments by the due date, the highest grade you can receive for that assignment is 80. The lowest grade will be dropped at the end of each 6 weeks.
¨ Answers to problems will not be accepted without the correct problem-solving method clearly shown. If you have the right answer but do not show your work or show incorrect work, it will be marked wrong. You must show work on homework to get credit.
¨ Treat all instructional materials including calculators and lab equipment with respect.
¨ Show respect to other students as colleagues and to me as your instructor. We all need to work well together to have a productive year.
Supplies/Materials:
o A notebook for class notes with a separate section for homework.
o A folder or binder to hold class activities and other returned papers.
o Chrome-book and internet
Grades will be calculated as follows:
TESTS 25%
HOMEWORK 25%
QUIZZES 25%
WRITING 25%
We will be using the online graphing calculators in this class www.desmos.com. Each student should download the Desmos app on their computers as well as their phones.
Keep in mind that some of the material or tests will challenge you. But don't let that discourage you. The correct approach to handling difficult material is to work harder, not to become frustrated and give up. You are bright and talented. You can achieve at the level required in this class or you wouldn't be here.
Basically, I expect that we all work hard together. I will always be available to help when you need it. I look forward to a productive and exciting year for all of us.
Your success is my top priority!
