The Special Education Department supports the District mission of preparing all students for success in college, career and community leadership.

The Special Education Department emphasizes an educational system that combines a rigorous academic program with exploration of career choices. General Education and Special Education teachers can utilize the Fort Worth ISD learning model as the guide for designing instruction that is relevant and engaging as well as for planning activities that foster authentic learning. The Special Education Department supports differentiating instruction, as appropriate, to meet the needs of all students, including students with disabilities.

The Department supports the District's primary focus on early literacy, middle school mathematics and successful post-secondary student outcomes. It also provides support in the delivery of services to students with special needs as determined by the Admission, Review or Dismissal (ARD) Committee and as stated in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
