A traditional approach to Algebra, this course will cover the following topics:

· Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities

· Functions, Equations, and Graphs

· Linear Systems

· Quadratic Functions and Equations

· Polynomials and Polynomial Functions

· Radical Functions and Rational Exponents

· Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

· Rational Functions

· Sequences and Series

· Quadratic Relations and Conic Sections

· Probability and Statistics

· Matrices

Materials needed for Class

· Online Textbook

· 3-ring binder with loose leaf paper

· Online Calculator

· Writing utensil (must have pencil for tests and quizzes)

Classroom Expectations

· Respect yourself, others, and your school.

Grading

6 Weeks grades will be weighted and calculated as follows:

· Tests and quizzes – 50%

· Quizzes – 25%

· Homework and in class assignments – 15%

· Participation – 10%

Tests and Quizzes

In general, tests will be given each Friday.

Quizzes

Quizzes will be given after every two to four lessons depending on chapter content. Quizzes will be computation based and assess specific bench marking skills.

Calculators

Calculators are allowed and often times required for homework assignments. Calculators are allowed for tests as per Mrs. Graver’s discretion. Students are expected to bring their own calculator to class and have it available when doing homework. A TI-84 is recommended especially for those planning to take pre-calculus. This is also the calculator used in LCCC math courses.

Cheating

Cheating is never tolerated. A zero will be given on any assignment, including tests, that cheating occurred. This may result in the student failing for the 6 weeks. All cases of cheating (including but not limited to copying answers on homework/quizzes/tests, possessing another student’s work, taking another student’s work and calling it your own, etc.) will be handled by the high school discipline policy.

Google

All lessons will be recorded daily and available for student viewing if absent or during study halls and at home for further clarification on Google. The videos can be used as a great memory jogger while doing homework and preparing for tests. Links to each lessons’ videos will be available by the end of the school day on Mr. Rowlands Google site.

Students Username and PW

All students will be sent a username and password allowing access to the curriculum Google site.

Student Acknowledgement:

I have read and understand the expectations, grading, cheating, and homework policy, and will supply the necessary materials for class daily as presented in the syllabus for Algebra 2.
