Welcome Students and Parents
First of all, thank you for letting me be a part of your 8th grade journey. My goal is to make it a great year for everyone, even if math is not your favorite subject.
This class is a problem solving class. Our focus is to not simply "get you ready for STAAR" but to help you think critically, get comfortable with trying things you don't know how to do, and learn to have conversations centered around math.
In this class we will...
Ask questions and explore
Find ways solve problems creatively
Learn "backwards" allowing you to try before you've been taught
Have career, college, and high school conversations, getting you ready for "what's next".
Make memories and enjoy 8th grade!
About me
I absolutely love being a teacher EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy playing and writing music, going to concerts, and cooking meals for family and friends. My passion is helping students find their purpose and navigate the ups and downs of being in middle school.
I have an MBA from Western Governors University, and a B.S in Management Communications (Cum Laude) from Amridge University and am certified to teach Math for grades 4-8.
Instead of the "my way or the highway" approach, together as a class we have developed a respect agreement, and had conversations about what it means to have respect for me, for me to have respect for my students, for students to respect each other, and for all of us to respect our classroom environment.
This is the basis for expectation in the classroom. Of course there are times when someone isn't meeting the expectation of the agreement. When that happens the following course of action will take place:
I will prompt a student regarding their behavior.
I will remind them of the respect agreement
I will move their seat
I will call their parents
I will make a referral to the counselor
