Hello everyone! I am Mr. Buckley, your teacher for English Language Arts this year. I was born and raised in Houston, TX, and I studied at Texas Christian University for my undergraduate degree. To be honest, when I was in 8th grade (many years ago!), English was not my favorite subject. In fact, it was one of my least favorite subjects. It took me until about half way through my college career that I began to love reading and writing. I saw a lot of value in crafting a message that could move someone, in being able to comprehend an old text that contains wisdom beyond my years, and in relaxing at the end of the day with a book that excited me more than the best TV show. Don't get me wrong, I still love movies, television, and video games, and I believe that those things are worth a lot in today's society, but throughout our class this year, I hope to instill in you all an appreciation for English language arts and reading. Literacy is the key to unlock the door of opportunity, so I am excited to welcome you back to school this year (virtually for hopefully not too long) to begin opening more doors.
