1SG (R) Michael Long

I retired from the Army in 2014 after 25 years. Since then I have been teaching Cadets in their first year of JROTC here at South Hills. This is me and my wife Lacey at our annual Cadet Ball. She is a third grade teacher at Oak Lawn Elementary here in Fort Worth.

JCLC

During the summer selected Cadets attend the JROTC Leadership Challenge Camp. For one week they will stay at Camp Rango in Azle, Texas where they will hone vital leadership skills while they participate in the high ropes challenge course, leader's reaction course and various STEAM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) activities.

ROBOTICS

This is our fifth year with a Robotics Special Team. We compete with robotics kits purchased from the VEX Robotics Company. Cadets who take robotics learn to design, engineer, and program robots to compete in that year's game. Click below to see this year's game.

DRILL MEETS

The core of the JROTC Program is the Drill and Ceremonies Drill Meet. We have armed and unarmed drill teams, color guard teams, physical training and academic teams. Members of these teams compete in at least three competitions including the district competition known as the Showdown in Cowtown.
