Participation in the Elementary History Fair provides students with an experience to engage authentically in disciplinary literacy. Projects create time and space for students to learn the fundamentals of and tinker with the tools historians use to investigate a past event, communicate a claim about it, and support the claim using evidence from primary and secondary sources.
Our department is focused on increasing representation in the FWISD Elementary History Fair across the school district. We invite you to be part of this effort by leading our school district in creating this invaluable experience so that more of our students become apprenticed in disciplinary literacy, and take center stage at the district competition. Will you accept the challenge?
Students will be able to research a topic and create an exhibit, website, documentary, or performance that relates to the theme set by the National History Day organization.
This site was created to assist during units of instruction in grades K-5 with the development of a research project and to support parents and teachers in guiding their student’s projects to completion.
2026 Contest Theme
Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History
To coincide with the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, NHD’s 2026 theme is Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History. The distinctions among revolutions, reactions, and reforms are sometimes blurred. Revolutions and reforms are often reactions to ideas, actions, or events. In turn, revolutions and reforms inspire reactions. Think of it as a domino effect—knock one down, which knocks the next one down, which knocks . . .
Additional resources related to the theme are available at the National History Day site.
