Battle of the Books (also known as BoB) is the annual districtwide reading competition in Fort Worth ISD. Every year around one thousand 3rd-12th grade students participate in a two day event held at TCU. The Battle of the Books Committee chooses a selection of books for each grade level/range to read over the course of the year, and in May teams compete in a three round quiz game answering questions about the books to determine who knows the books best!
Whether it is your first time participating or you are an old pro, this handbook will help answer your questions about Battle of the Books.
Have you read or heard about a book that would be great for our FWISD BoB competitors? Let the committee know about it!
Most of our books come from recent award lists, hot new titles, and FWISD librarian suggestions. You can help us plan for our next competition by suggesting books using the link below. Please keep the following in mind:
Be specific. For example, “titles on the non-fiction shelf” won’t be helpful. We need actual titles and grade level suggestions.
We do not repeat titles. If the book was used in 2018 (or any other competition year), it will not be used again.
We look for titles that most libraries already have a copy of or will likely be purchasing for the upcoming school year.
Books must comply with FWISD Collection Development Standards.
