PREP

PREP Program @ The Transition Center 

(Preparing for Real Employment Possibilities)

PREP is a half-day pre-vocational program offered to students who are interested in career exploration. Those eligible attend the program at the Transition Center campus for half-day and their home campus for half-day. 

Students receive general transferable work skills training and basic instruction in: 

Program Eligibility:

Students must be at least 16 years of age and be able to follow directions. 

LIFT

LIFT @ The Transition Center 

(Life Instruction and Functional Training)

LIFT is a full-day program with instruction that focuses on vocational skills, community access skills and home living skills.

Program Eligibility: 

Students who are in the last 2-3 years of Special Services eligibility (ages 18-21) 

LEAP

LEAP @ The Transition Center 

(Life Education and Preparation)

LEAP is a full-day program for students whose graduation plan is geared towards competitive employment. Instruction focuses on vocational skills, independent access to public transportation and life management skills. 

Program Eligibility: 

Students who are in the last 2-3 years of Special Services eligibility (ages 18-21) 

LIFE

LIFE @ The Transition Center 

Program Eligibility: 

Students who are in their last 1-2 years of education (ages 18-21) and recommended by the ARD Committee. 

Supported Employment

Students will train in a year-round, full day supported employment placement for students whose graduation plan is geared toward supported employment.  FWISD is partnered with a packaging and assembly plant that offers a variety of jobs incorporating transferable skills in a supervised environment. 

These jobs are contracted through local businesses and include, but are not limited to: packaging, shrink wrapping, collating, bagging, box stitching, labeling and gluing. Students are paid minimum wage and provided transportation by FWISD.

Program Eligibility: 

Students who are in their last 1-2 years of education (ages 18-21) and recommended by the ARD Committee. 

Project Search - Community Internship Program

Project SEARCH is a one year student Internship for students who elect not to graduate and remain a high school student for 1 year. The Student Intern will learn transferrable soft employment skills and comprehensive employment skills. The students utilize public transportation to and from the business site. Daily classroom instruction includes job seeking and keeping skills. Student Interns complete hands-on tasks and responsibilities through rotations into departments of interest. The program goal is for each student to be employed prior to graduation.

Program Eligibility:

Requires an ARD Committee decision, completion of all graduation requirements, submit application and interview for acceptance as an Intern. 

TRAVEL TRAINING

The goal of travel training is that each student will be able to use one of the public transportation modes independently.

Program Eligibility: 

Students that have a goal to utilize public transportation to access the community. 

Community Work Experience: From Bridges to Work

The Bridges staff work one-on-one with enthusiastic and capable young people upon exiting high school, helping them to successfully enter the workforce in a job that fits their interests and ability, while planning for long term vocational growth.
