NWEA, STAAR, and TELPAS are standardized assessments that are taken by many students in FWISD and across the state.
General information about each assessment can be found at:
NWEA - https://www.nwea.org/family-toolkit/
The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) is a standardized academic achievement test designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and is able to apply the defined knowledge and skills in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) at each tested grade, subject, and course.
Fort Worth ISD OneSource counts every eligible scorable test taken on a campus during the most current testing window. Student performance on STAAR is separated into four performance categories by the State—Masters Grade Level, Meets Grade Level, Approaches Grade Level, and Did Not Meet Grade Level. Students who achieve Approaches Grade Level or higher on STAAR have passed the test. Students who achieve Did Not Meet Grade Level on STAAR have not passed the test.
Fort Worth ISD's OneSource platform utilizes internal historical student data to display STAAR EOC test attempts and academic growth trends. STAAR EOC Attempt counts are provided by how many times a student has taken the assessment from previous testing efforts based on eligible information. STAAR Growth is an internal effort to mimic TEA Accountability: Academic Growth. STAAR Growth subject counts are provided by current assessment results as compared to previous results based on eligible internal information. Individual student growth is calculated as the change between Low Did Not Meet Grade Level, High Did Not Meet Grade Level, Low Approaches Grade Level, High Approaches Grade Level, Meets Grade Level, and Masters Grade Level performance.
The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) is an English language proficiency assessment aligned to the Texas English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS). This assessment is designed to assess the progress that emergent bilingual (EB) students make in learning the English language.
TELPAS assesses the English language proficiency of emergent bilingual (EB) students in grades K–12 in four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The four proficiency levels are advanced high, advanced, intermediate, and beginning.
Fort Worth ISD OneSource counts every eligible scorable test taken on a campus during the most current testing window. This analysis involves adding up each student's proficiency levels in each subject area (domains) and their overall combined score (composite), as defined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
