Dr. Ronald Keith Byrd

This will be my 17th year loving teaching at Poly! I currently teach On-Ramps Statistics, AP Calculus, and On-Ramps Pre-Calculus. Previously I’ve taught On-Ramps Computer Science, AP Biology,  AP Environmental Science, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Algebra II, and Honors Geometry.

I graduated from University of Maryland at College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I worked as a research technician for the National Cancer Institute in Fort Detrick, Maryland until attending Johns Hopkins University where I obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Biology studying the organization of DNA in the nucleus and how that affects gene regulation. I did post-doctoral research at the University of San Francisco, California studying proteins involved in memory formation.

I also teach biology and genetics at TCC-NE, where I am an adjunct professor. In the summer, I teach research to Upward Bound students at Texas Wesleyan University.

I love teaching Advanced Placement  and On-Ramps classes where students can earn college credit and can score in the top percentage of all college bound students in the world! Many Poly students have earned college credit in my Statistics, Calculus,  On-Ramps, Biology and Environmental Science classes! Go Poly!

My wife, Kristin, is a Biology professor and co-chair of the Biology department at TCC-NE campus. I have 2 sons: Jackson (19) who loves playing saxophone and attending University of Texas in Austin and John Keith (12) who loves scouts, Yu-Gi-Oh and sword fighting. When I'm not teaching I enjoy golfing, biking, swimming, pickle ball, watchmaking and spending time with family.
