The AP Studio Art 2D Design & Drawing Portfolio program gives students the opportunity to continue their advancement in art. The course stresses that making art is an on-going process. It involves higher-order thinking and creative problem-solving skills, as well as informed and critical decision-making. The students must have permission of the instructor to be in the class, must have the drive and dedication to complete the portfolio, and must have the creative talent and vision to produce high-quality work. The students will further explore art-making processes and advance their own personal style through a concentrated series of work. The student will be asked to visit various museums and galleries. The student will make informed judgments about personal art works and the works of others by writing evaluations and critiques. By being knowledgeable about the work of many artists from art history, students learn to know the difference between being inspired by artists and directly plagiarizing them. The students in this course must have prior knowledge from previous art courses about what constitutes plagiarism. The use of photographs, published images, and/or other artist’s work will not be tolerated. Students must learn to develop their artistic integrity in their pieces that moves beyond mere duplication of other artist’s work.
