Welcome! My name is Ms. K and I am the Communities in Schools Program Manager here at Briscoe Elementary. I am entering my second year at Briscoe and am so excited to be back!! As many of my students know, I am not from Texas. I was born in raised in Northern New Jersey and attended Misericordia University in Dallas, PA for my undergradute degree. As a senior in college, after three feet of snow that winter, I decided that it was time for some much needed warm weather and decided that I was moving South to Texas. While in Texas, I attended Texas Christian University and received my Master's in Social Work and eventually passed my licensure exam to become a Licensed Masters in Social Work.
While my passion is working with my students, helping to remove all barriers to improve student success, I have several hobbies outside of my work. If it is the fall time, you can definitely find me watching either TCU Horned Frog football or cheering on my beloved New York Giants (sorry all you Cowboys fans). When it is not football season though I enjoy the outdoors, spending time with family and friends or indulging in some good ole Texas BBQ.
Communities in Schools aims to keep students in schools and remove all barriers (food, grades/academics, absences, low - self esteem, peer conflicts, etc.) that have an impact on student success. In school, I meet with students for groups to discuss various social emotional learning activities, provide academic assistance, positive reinforcement, and serve as an advocate for your students here on campus.
