Syllabus
Responsibilities
Students will be responsible for reporting to our virtual class on Google Meet at the beginning of each period for attendance with video on and microphones muted.
If a student will be absent from the daily meeting, it is their responsibility to email Coach Wendell the same day and to obtain the recorded lesson off of the Google Classroom.
Individual
Most assignments will be completed individually. These should be turned in to Google Classroom.
If a student is confused or needs extra help with an assignment, they need to email Coach Wendell and plan to attend the office hours that day.
Some students will be assigned a mandatory meeting during office hours.
Time Commitment
Expect to work 40 minutes of asynchronous (the same time as classmates and the teacher) class time every other day (block scheduling). Some assignments will require additional time outside. Some students will need to attend office hours.
Assignment Dues Dates
Most assignments will be due next the day it is assigned.
Questions and posts that act as discussion board will occur on Google Classroom. Be sure to thoughtfully respond with only school-appropriate content. Even deleted text may viewed by Coach Wendell.
Grading and Rubrics
Grades will be divided into 4 categories: Participation(30%), Workbook Assignments(30%), Quizzes(10%), and Major Tests(30%).
Digital Citizenship
Responsible digital citizenship means taking part in online community life in a safe, ethical and respectful way. Good digital citizens behave respectfully, protect their reputations and privacy, watch their tone, and are skeptical of information. (raisingchildren.net.au)
Copy/pasting or plagiarizing work will not be accepted. As easy as it is to do, it is even easier for Coach Wendell to check for plagiarism! Google Classroom has a tool to check automatically.
A little about Coach Wendell
I graduated from Arlington High School, and continued my education at Texas Christian University, graduating with a Batchlor of Science in Kinesiological Studies. The human body has always fascinated me. I was fortunate to swim for the Horned Frogs, and was on the first NCAA qualifying squad to go to the national Championship Meet for the Frogs. Health has also always been a passion of mine. This is my 16th year teaching school, 8th year at Western Hills. I coach the WHHS swim team, and have taken a swimmer twice to the state competition in Austin.
