About

Hello! My name is Emily and I am thrilled to serve as your school counselor! This is my 12th year in education and 8th year in counseling. I truly believe that I have the best job in the world and love supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic growth. I was at Westlake Academy IBO World School for 6 years followed by working in educational consulting and community counseling. I love the field of counseling and a few of my professional interest areas are: mindset, play therapy, healthy interpersonal relationships, empathy, grief and resilience. I love teaching students the power of a growth mindset and how to create and nurture healthy relationships with those around them. My role is not to solve problems, but to empower, encourage, and support your child in problem solving.

I graduated with a B.A. from Texas A&M University (Whoop!) and then attended the University of North Texas where I earned my M.Ed. in both school counseling and community mental health counseling. As a lifelong learner, am actively engaged in professional organizations and ongoing training. I have been fortunate to attend many educational conferences including International Baccalaureate training in the UK and the Claremont McKenna Summer Institute on college readiness. I strive to develop a counseling program that is relevant, practical, and best serves our students and school community.

I am so excited to be a part of the Alice Carlson family and look forward to getting to know your family! I love spending time with my family, traveling, being outdoors, caring for my many indoor plants, running/cycling, and of course watching some Fightin’ Texas Aggie Football as well as our hometown Frogs!
