Mr. Caraway's Class Site



Austin Caraway

Mr. Caraway is beginning his twelfth year of teaching and his fourth year at Marine Creek. He has taught every level of English and Reading offered in FWISD high schools, with most of his experience being in rigorous AP and PreAP courses. His passion is in teaching the critical thinking, reading, and writing skills that will prepare students for engaging in the world however they may choose, be it in college, trade school, the workplace, or responsible citizenship.

He is the father of four teenagers and is so glad that they're finally old enough to take care of themselves a bit--he enjoys the increase in life's free time.

Mr. Caraway is also an artist, writer, gardener, yogi, cyclist, fire eater, and hippy rebel. He seems to think that he's pretty cool--the rest of us aren't sure yet.

This Friday is the end of our first progress reporting period! I will be getting your current grades updated by the end of the day Thursday. Go through our Google Classroom Classwork section to make sure that you have completed all of your assignments. Everything not labeled ATTENDANCE will have a grade assigned. Be sure to attend Friday's tutorial session if you have any questions or need any help.

How do you know if you should attend?

- If you have any ATTENDANCE issues for my class, you need to join the Meets session and speak to me about it there.

Today, you get to focus on you. And music.

Think about the kind of music that makes you feel something. I'm not talking about your favorite turn-up songs or the ones that make you want to dance. Think about a song that really engages your emotions in some way. It might turn on your hope, anger, sadness, or belief.

Choose ONE song that stimulates your sense of humanity. Create a new Docs file in the Google Classroom assignment (or send me an email if you don't have access), and include the following information:

"Song Title" (in quotation marks)

Artist

Album Title (underlined)

Release Date

Paragraph 1:

Write a SUMMARY of the song. (3-5 sentences)

Paragraph 2:

Write an EXPLANATION of how the song affects you emotionally. Include quotes from and/or references to the song. (5-7 sentences)

Paragraph 3:

PERSUADE me to listen to the song. Remember that I will likely not automatically feel what you do, so you're going to have to find ways to convince me. (3-5 sentences)

Be sure to press the Turn In/Submit button when you're done!

Welcome to Marine Creek!

I'm going to your English and Reading teacher this year, and I want to offer you a very warm digital welcome. Below, you'll find the join codes for our Google Classroom and Remind accounts. Using your schedule as a guide, find the codes for your class periods and join the appropriate sections. If you have any questions about what to do or when, my email address is also listed below. There are also sections for homeroom and for parents (parents are not required to join if they'd rather not). All of this information will be permanently listed at the lower left of this site.
