Ms. Jankul-Tavchar has been teaching with the Toronto District School Board since September of 2000 and has taught at a number of different high schools from Scarborough to Etobicoke!
She began dancing at two and a half with the Donna Brown School of Dance, where she first discovered her passion for dance. With her entrance into the Claude Watson Arts Programme in grade 4, she thrived as a Dance Major for 10 years, with numerous drama credits, graduating from Claude Watson, Earl Haig as an Ontario Scholar and Claude Watson Dance Award winner. From there, she went on to audition for the York University Dance Programme and was accepted on full scholarship.
Although Ms. J. has focused her career on Dance, as that is where she began, she has always had a strong interest in technical theatre. With curiousity peaked from a smattering of theatre courses through York University, this yearning to learn more prompted her to take over the Woburn Stage Crew in the late 2000s, which she ran for 15 years before departing Scarborough and moving to West Humber CI.
After completing her Drama AQ and surviving the weird world of online teaching through the Covid shut-downs, Ms. J. returned to in-person teaching with a focus on reviving the Dance and Drama programs as well as taking on the West Humber Stage Crew, which has grown to a 20-member club with employment opportunities through the TDSB!
With energy, excitement and an eye for how to improve the program and the auditorium-classroom, Ms. J. is excited to be reigniting the Drama Program at West Humber and to share her passion for The Arts with her students each and every year!
