Can I get OSAP to take this program?

This program is not a post secondary program and so is not eligible for OSAP. There is no tuition. Ontario Works and ODSP do support students attending our program.

Does Yorkdale have paid placements?

Currently with the new government funding all eligible PSW Placements are paid.

Why is Yorkdale"s Program 8 months and the colleges only 6 months?

The Colleges received special Ministry funding to shorten their program to fast track PSWs into the workforce during the pandemic. We are invested in providing quality education to our PSW students and we invest our time into doing so. At Yorkdale we ensure our PSWs will be of the highest caliber!

I already have a police check do I need to get a new one?

It depends on the type of police check you have and when it was completed. For this program you need a VSS (Vulnerable Sector Search) it also must have been dated within 6 months of starting your placement.

If you have any past convictions you will not be able to get a clear VSS which would make you ineligible for placement

Can I take the course part time or in the evenings?

Unfortunately we are a full-time day school only.

My friend said I can use her textbook, do I have to get a new one?

This is up to you. it is beneficial if you are using the same version of the textbook the teachers are using.

You are not obligated to pay for anything you already have. Ex CPR/FA. It must be Standard FA and BLS CPR. if you have this and it is still valid you do not need to get it again.

My child's day care opens at 7:30am and I wont be able to get to school until 9:00am. Will this be a problem?

Unfortunately, yes. You have to be able to do the hours of the program as they are to be eligible for you certificate. Also placement starts at 7:00am and there are no exceptions.

I am already working as a care provider, will I be able to do my placement at my work?

Unfortunately, no you can't. You will have to attend one of the placements we have a contract with to host our students.

Do I have to give the school the $1, 500.00 right away?

No. Almost all of the payments are not made to the school but to outside service providers. For example, you will have to buy your uniform at the store etc.

You do not need to get anything prior to the course starting. Your teacher will guide you in when you need to fill in your forms or purchase items.

Is this program accredited?

Yes it is. Our PSW program is fully accredited by Personal Support Worker Program Accreditation (PSWPA) through the Continuing Education School Board Administrators' Association (CESBA)

Why is this program so cheap compared to the NAAC private career colleges and the Community Colleges?

We are a public school funded by the Ministry of Education of the Province of Ontario. We do not charge tuition for our program.

Can I work in another Province with my certificate?

Certificates are province based in Canada. To work in Alberta for example you must meet their requirements.

Will I get hired with your certificate ? Or is it better to do NAAC Private Career College or the Community College certificate?

We all use the same PSW Program Standard of the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities. We all must meet the same Vocational Learning Outcomes and our students all get trained at the same long term placements facilities. There are differences, and we encourage you to do your research when choosing a program.

Will I get hired with your certificate or is it better to do the NAAC Private Career College or the Community College certificate?

There are some good reasons to choose one over the other so we encourage you to do your research when choosing a program.

Our graduates work all over the city in hospitals, long term care homes , group homes and in home care situations.

Can I get into one of the bridging to PN Programs with your certificate?

We strongly advise you to do your homework as we do not have any control over the colleges' admission process. Make sure befoer you apply to the program.
