Art Challenge 1- K-Grade 2

Art Challenge 1 : A Colour Wheel!

Watch this short videos about primary and secondary colours- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiPPavzxpAY

You are going to make your own colour wheel using objects from around your home.

Be creative and make sure you ask a grown up if you can use the object.

Step 1- Go on a hunt for coloured objects (try to find at least one object of each colour of the rainbow)

Step 2- Using the objects, sort them by colour. Then order in rainbow order.

Step 3- Either show and share with someone at home or take a picture of what you created.

Step 4- Think of other ways to sort your objects.

Can you sort them by size? Can you sort them by material?

Step 5- Put the objects back where you found them when you are done and clean up. Maybe take an extra 5 minutes to help tidy up : )

Art Challenge 2

Step 1- Looking for Art

You can look around your home, in a book or look online for art. You can start by looking at some famous art pieces, or art that you already know. Find something you LIKE !

Step 2- Look closely at the Art. What colours do you see? What lines do you notice?

Step 3- Finding your materials

You are going to recreate the image using objects from around your house. Don’t worry about being a copy cat….this will give you an opportunity to really look closely!

(Recreating is our first step, we will be CREATING next!)

Notice all the colours in the art, and go on a colour hunt!

Step 4- Re creating the art

Find a solid colour for the background or use the colour of the actual background in the art.

Now working from the background to the foreground, find colours that work and place them on your background. Look closely at the original art.

Step 5- Look closer now!

Once you have all of the main parts in your picture, look even closer at the little details. What else do you see that you didn’t notice before?

Step 4- Share!

Once you have finished, share your work with someone at home. You can even take a picture and send it to me jennifer.matsalla@tdsb.on.ca

Step 5- CREATE

Using the same materials, can you create YOUR own art piece?
