Generally, I don't give my students homework as research has shown that it isn't always particularly helpful (see Barber 1986, MacDonald 2009, O’Neill 2008, etc.). I am also very aware that many students have extracurriculars and need time for family/to unwind after each day.
Occasionally, students may be asked to finish tasks at home if they did not use their time productively in class. These assignments are to be completed individually and without parent or sibling support. If you find your child is spending a large amount of time at home finishing classwork or you have concerns, please contact me to discuss.
All that being said, I do expect all students to read for at least 20 minutes each night. Books can be found online (stay tuned for more information), or in-person/online through the public or school libraries. Every student is expected to keep an up to date reading journal in class throughout the year (more information coming shorty).
