What is Growth Mindset?

A growth mindset is the belief that you can learn anything and that intelligence can grow. For example if you work hard and persist through challenges then you can learn.

A fixed mindset is the belief that you either can or cannot do something. For example, some people can do math while others cannot do math because they were born that way.

Why is Growth Mindset Important?

Students with a fixed mindset give up easily, whereas those with a growth mindset will keep trying even with difficult tasks.

Students with a growth mindset believe that they can learn new things so they embrace math problems and will persevere through any task. Students with a fixed mindset believe that there are certain people who can do math and they lack the confidence in themselves to persevere through any math challenges.

All adults, parents and educators must help students to understand growth mindset and help create lifelong learners.
