Exam Stress Webinar

Last Winter, LP hosted a Webinar for families around the topic of supporting students through the return of final exams. Please click here to view a recording of the webinar and here for the Webinar Resource Package.  There are some excellent tools and strategies that students and families can review leading up to exams.

Exam Lengths

Grade 9 and 10 Course Exams are 1 hour in length.  Any student that requires additional time, may have up to 1.5 hours to complete the exam.  All students regardless of whether or not they finish early, must stay in the exam room until the 1 hour mark at which time they can leave, or wait until 1 hour 30 minutes is finished at which point all remaining students will be asked to hand in their exams.

Grade 11 and 12 Course Exams are 1 hour 30 minutes in length.  Any student that requires additional time, may have up to 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete the exam.  All students regardless of whether or not they finish early, must stay in the exam room until the 1 hour 30 minute mark at which time they can leave.  They will then have the opportunity to leave at the 1 hour 50 minute mark, or wait until 2 hours 15 minutes is finished at which point all remaining students will be asked to hand in their exams.

Special Education Supports

Special Education support services are available for those students who require additional support during the exam period.

Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

 LPCI Expectations- Missed Exams

Exam dates and times for all courses are set out in the exam schedule which has been distributed to students and parents/guardians. We are not able to accommodate any changes to the exam schedule or requests to write an exam at a date/time other than the scheduled date/time shown.

Students are urged to check their exam schedule carefully. If a student misses an exam because of misreading the schedule, the student will receive a mark of “0”.

In the event that a student is too sick to write a final exam, the parent/guardian must provide documentation of the illness.  The parent/guardian is asked to contact the school before the exam is written. The parent/guardian will be given the Lawrence Park CI ‘Missed Evaluation’ form to be completed by a medical doctor and submitted within two days of the missed exam.

Family vacations are not considered excused absences and, as such, students are expected to be in attendance for all examinations.

If satisfactory documentation of the illness is provided on the missed evaluation form, an alternative evaluation may be scheduled. Students granted an alternative evaluation will receive a mark of “0” until they complete the alternative examination.

Late Arrivals During the Exam

Each student is given a copy of the exam schedule at least two weeks before the examination. Punctuality is expected. Students who arrive late will be admitted to the exam up to one hour after the exam begins, but will not receive extra time.
