What it's all about...
Grade 12
The business leadership courses allow students to explore how managers function in organizations and take on the challenge of generating solutions in order to solve problems. These courses allow students to explore the roles, responsibilities, skills, and functions of management. Students will learn the factors that encourage effective leadership practices. Emphasis throughout the courses will be placed on the importance of ethics and social responsibility in the corporate world. Students will learn how to communicate effectively for business purposes.The courses in business leadership will prepare students to work effectively in organizations in positions of employment and management.
Course Content:
Foundations of Management
Students will examine what it means to be a manager. For centuries, people have studied what it means to lead people and lead them well. We will examine some of these theories and let you develop your own managerial style.
Leading
In this section we look at the complexities of human behaviour. What makes people tick? How do group dynamics influence the way people think?
Management Challenges
How do we motivate people? How do we navigate change? How do we deal with conflict in the workplace? A psychological study of management.
Planning and Controlling
We will continue our look at the functions of management (planning, organizing, leading and controlling). In this phase, we will evaluate techniques/strategies used by successful managers.
Organizing
In this final unit of the course, we analyze organizational structures. We will also look at the very important role of human resources.
