The photos on this site were created by you, the students in grades 11 and 12 Communications Technology at Humberside Collegiate Institute during the third and fourth quadmesters of 2021. Through these images you demonstrate that powerful photos are not haphazardly taken but intentionally created. You use the medium of light and a variety of composition techniques to tell meaningful stories while trying to tap into the human condition. The pandemic has been difficult and has highlighted inequities in our society. It has been said that we are navigating the same ocean storm on different vessels. Many of you have struggled with your mental health. You are not alone in this.
The photos on this site are an honest visual record of your experiences during this time and in this place. There is a somber quality in many of your portraits; especially in the studio when we had to wear masks. But more importantly I see tenaciousness and hope in your work as you capture our shared humanity and the wonders of the natural world around us. I am so grateful to have spent the past 5 months with you during this unprecedented school year. A big congratulations to the graduating class of 2021! You are all bright shining lights. Your story is only just beginning.
