The arts play a vital role in education and society, serving as a foundation for creativity, innovation, and growth. Through drama, visual arts, communication technology, and music, students learn to think creatively, express ideas clearly, and view challenges from new perspectives. Many mathematicians, scientists, and multinational organizations seek individuals who can problem-solve, innovate, and adapt—skills rooted in artistic learning. Creativity is the driving force behind innovation, and the arts teach students how to think outside the box, explore alternative viewpoints, and develop original solutions for real-world problems. By engaging in the arts, students build confidence, collaboration skills, and creative thinking that support success in all areas of life. Let the arts jump-start your child’s development and guide them on a path toward innovation, leadership, and lifelong success.
The Secondary Visual Arts program provides students with opportunities to develop their artistic voice, technical skills, and critical understanding of visual culture. Grounded in the Ontario Arts Curriculum (Grades 9–12), the program prepares students to create, analyze, and interpret art in ways that encourage creativity, innovation, and cultural awareness.
Through experiential learning, students explore a variety of traditional, contemporary, and digital art forms. Courses emphasize personal expression, creative problem-solving, and the development of transferable skills that support success in postsecondary pathways and future careers.
The Communications Technology program prepares students to become skilled, creative, and responsible contributors in today’s media-rich world. Rooted in the Ontario Secondary Curriculum, the program provides hands-on learning experiences in digital media, visual communication, and emerging technologies. Students explore how ideas are planned, produced, and shared through a variety of multimedia formats used across creative and technical industries.
Through project-based learning, students gain both technical proficiency and critical understanding of how communication technologies shape culture, identity, and global communication.
Dramatic Arts is a provincially mandated secondary arts discipline that invites students to explore drama as both an expressive art form and a way of understanding themselves and the world around them. Drama courses at the Toronto District School Board provide dynamic opportunities for students to create, perform, analyse, and reflect on dramatic works while developing confidence, creativity, communication skills, and collaboration.
