Humberside's Assessment & Evaluation Guidelines, which are based on TDSB and Ministry of Education policies, provide students and families with information related to expectations around practices related to assessment and evaluation. We would encourage you familiarize yourself with this document as it covers content related to everything from academic dishonesty and the inappropriate use of AI, to absenteeism during exams.
*Please note that family vacations are not considered a legitimate absence. Every effort should be made to avoid scheduling family vacations during school time. Holiday dates are published in the school calendar and on the TDSB website, http://www.tdsb.on.ca. In the event of a missed evaluation due to a family vacation, teachers are not required to provide an alternative form of evaluation. In the case of examinations, no make-up exam or alternative arrangements will be made. As well, this would extend to any self-isolation you need to undertake due to this planned vacation/travel. In person students will not be made Virtual Learners in order to accommodate.
At the beginning of the school year, students will be provided with a written course outline in each class which describes the expectations, content and evaluation for each course. Students will be informed of the type and number of assignments and tests and how their final mark will be calculated.
Teachers will use a variety of evaluation strategies which recognize different learning styles and should include written, oral and presentation skills as appropriate to the course expectations.
The school year calendar will outline the academic calendar, report card dates and parent/guardian-teacher interviews can be found here: Calendars
Parents are encouraged to contact teachers throughout the year regarding progress in individual subjects. E-mail addresses of teachers are the first name.last name@tdsb.on.ca
In Class Examination Preparation
As part of normal course review and examination preparations, teachers will provide all students with information as to the structure and selected content areas for the examination.
All tests, assignments, projects and other material relevant to examinations will be returned to students at least TWO classes before the start of examinations. No field trips will be scheduled for the three weeks prior to the commencement of final evaluations.
