PACE Program

The PACE program allows students the opportunity to:

  • Explore and experience a variety of skilled trades in the construction sector while gaining valuable work experience;

  • Earn 4 credits in cooperative education while developing skills related to construction;

  • Gain certifications and awareness training recognized by industry.

Students must be at least 16 years of age and committed to attending a cooperative education placement within the TDSB. Students who are 18 years of age and older, must undergo a Police Record Check (PRC) through the TDSB PRC office located at 17 Fairmeadow Avenue, Room 107. The process takes approximately 4 weeks and selected students must attain a clear report prior to starting their placements. (see TDSB PRC policies and procedures.)

Steps to Construction

This unique to the TDSB program provides a great opportunity to experience the construction industry though participation in a variety of skilled strade, while working on a single hi-rise condominium site. Students remain on the home school's roll while participating in work placements across the city with some of Ontario's largest residential building companies.

As part of the program, students also participate in a dual credit program, earning one college credit in addition to their 4 coop education credits.

Steps to Transportation

The co-op program, called STEP to Transportation, lets Grade 11/12 students spend a semester on a job site sampling several skilled trades – from truck and coach technician to auto body collision repair, electronics to millwright, metal fabrication, welding, and more – to see if one sparks their interest. STEP stands for Specialized Trades Exploration Program, because it lets students explore from three to seven of these trades over a semester, rather than just one. It also sends them to George Brown College once a week for a dual credit (college credit + high school credit). They also earn a fistful of safety certificates to beef up their resumes, free of charge. STEP grads end up with five high school credits and a college credit to boot.

Stratagem – TDSB Creative Industries Virtual Co-op Program

The Stratagem – TDSB Creative Industries Co-op Program is an online co-op experience for high school students that enables participants to explore aspects related to the creative industries. This program features guest talks from a variety of high-profile figures in the business to introduce a topic for investigation each week for students to research, collaborate, and reflect. Students work in teams under the guidance of their teacher(s) to present their findings back to the guest speaker at the end of the week. Students who complete the program are better prepared for pathways into careers in the industry, and are more aware of their options for further education to enable them to get there.

The program supports the following learning outcomes:

  1. Describe the current state of the creative industries in Ontario;

  2. Describe certain facets of the industry in terms of the techniques, the tools, or the issues that drive it;

  3. Produce a creative presentation that responds to a topic;

  4. Work in teams to organize work and determine roles for presentation;

  5. Demonstrate professional approaches to presentation skills;

  6. Explain different options in their ongoing education as a contributor to their career path;

  7. Apply secondary research methods to the gathering of information on the creative industries.
