The Canadian and World Studies program at ACCI offers a variety of courses delving into global affairs, historical narratives, cultural dynamics, and geopolitical landscapes to foster stronger understanding of diverse societies, past and present, and their interconnectedness.
In Canadian and World Studies, students develop skills, knowledge, and perspectives that will serve them both inside and outside the classroom, including in the world of work and as responsible citizens in the various communities to which they belong.
The Canadian and World Studies program incorporates three subjects:
Geography
History
Social Sciences
GEOGRAPHY
Geography includes the study of the physical environment as well as population. Students will examine issues relating to interactions between physical processes and people living in Canada; changing populations in Canada; economic and environmental sustainability; and interconnections between Canada and the global community.
HISTORY
History includes the study of diverse individuals, groups, and societies, and how these relate to significant events, developments, and ethical issues in the past. Students will begin by exploring key perspectives, triumphs, and challenges in Canadian history, and can then continue their studies through examining world histories and ancient civilizations.
SOCIAL SCIENCES
Social Sciences include studies in Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Law, Philosophy, and Equity Studies. Concerned with the human world and society, these courses analyze human behavior and social institutions. In these courses, students learn how to ask important questions, how to research, how to think critically, and more.
