Toronto, ON – April 07, 2026 – We were thrilled to host representatives from RBC, George Manu and Kavita Srivastava for an exclusive workshop dedicated to preparing our students for the modern workforce. This session bridged the gap between academic learning and professional reality, focusing on how to stand out in a competitive global market.
The workshop kicked off with an exploration of Personal Branding. In today’s digital age, your "brand" is the unique combination of skills, experiences, and personality that you want the world to see. It’s the intentional effort to create and influence public perception of an individual. A strong personal brand builds credibility and helps students differentiate themselves when applying for internships, scholarships, and first-time jobs.
The final leg of the workshop delved into the technicalities of Resume Building. Students learned that a resume is a living document that must evolve alongside their career development.
A special thank you to the RBC team for investing their time and expertise into the students of David & Mary Thomson CI.
Toronto, ON – March 26, 2026 – Our business students stepped away from their laptops to gain some high-level, real-world perspective at the Empowering Young Women+ event, hosted by JA Central Ontario. Held at the architecturally stunning Toronto Reference Library, the day was a vibrant blend of mentorship, career exploration, and professional networking.
Timed to celebrate International Women’s Day, this event brought together 250 students from across Central Ontario to engage with over 80 industry mentors. For our students, it was a unique opportunity to see the concepts of leadership and inclusive commerce move from theory into practice.
Here is what made the trip so impactful:
Students connected with professionals from diverse sectors, gaining insights into building gender-inclusive workplaces and navigating the modern corporate landscape.
We heard from industry leaders, who spoke on the importance of resilience and emphasized the necessity of lifelong learning in a changing global economy.
The "aesthetic" of the Toronto Reference Library provided a sophisticated backdrop that truly energized the students. Being in such an iconic downtown space helped them visualize their own future careers in the heart of the city.
As a department, we believe that the most profound learning happens when students engage directly with the community. Watching our students step up to network with mentors and ask thoughtful questions about career paths displays their growth as future business leaders.
They walked away not just with new knowledge, but with an expanded professional network and a clearer vision of the impact they can make in the business world.
We are incredibly proud to celebrate our Grade 10 Business students who recently completed the Junior Achievement (JA) Be Entrepreneurial program and earned a Certificate of Achievement!
In today's challenging job market, entrepreneurs are the key to job growth. Many Canadian youth have the passion to launch their own businesses to create jobs for themselves and others. However, the skills young people need to run businesses aren't often explicitly taught in schools.
Through the JA program, our students dove deep into the world of new venture creation. They developed essential business acumen by:
Identifying target markets for new products and services.
Analyzing competitive advantages to differentiate their ideas.
Developing a comprehensive business plan and strategy from concept to execution.
A huge congratulations to all our students for embracing this challenge and taking the first step on their entrepreneurial journey! The future of innovation is in your hands.
