What's Happening in STEM?
Our STEM lab is up and running. A number of classes have used the lab to create various projects. Check out the pictures below to see what our students have been up to.
Mrs. Zalameda's class showed a strong interest in learning about our insect friends they see in the Burrows Hall yard. We learned about ladybugs and what they need to survive in their habitat. We then created a diorama of ladybugs in their own habitats.
Mrs. Oliveira's grade 6's used the lab for a STEAM project. Using naturals materials, they created autumn art backgrounds for their haikus (while learning how to use some of the tools, such as glue guns, in the STEM room).
On Wednesday, November 12th, presenters from Ontario Tech University Engineering Outreach came to our school to work with our 3 junior classes. They used a hands-on approach to learn about a number of different concepts, such as artificial limbs and coding a stoplight. The students all had a very positive experience!
Mrs. Mok's class was hard at work creating playgrounds from various materials. This helped them to solidify their learning around Simple Machines and Forces
Miss Chan's Grade 1 class created their own building projects, such as robots, cars or even chairs. They used a number of different materials and STEM lab tools to complete their design challenge.
Miss Chan's class also created dioramas based on 2 separate seasons that we experience here in Canada.
Mrs. Gomez' class had a lot of fun coding their own robots to complete a number of challenges, including knocking down towers!
